Where is Namche Bazaar?

namche

July 19, 2014

Namche Bazaar is the Solukhumbu District in north-eastern Nepal.  It is recognised as the unofficial capital of the Khumbu region and is home to many Sherpa people of the Everest region. Due to the importance of acclimatisation to trekkers and climbers travelling in the Everest region, Namche has become a very popular place to spend two nights on the way to Everest Base Camp.  Namche is a beautiful place to relax and take a break. Directly to the east is the stunning Thamserku at 6623m and immediately west is Kongde Ri at 6187m.

Many years ago this author stumbled across the Namche Hotel. The owners are Ang Maya and Dorjee Sherpa. Ang Maya and Dorjee provide the most incredible food and hospitality not only the Khumbu, but all of Nepal. Their hotel rooms are beautifully appointed and the new building features en suites in every room.  Most importantly, the hot water never runs out. There is WiFi internet throughout the building, cold beer in the fridge (very rare in Nepal) and a bakery on the roof… what more could you ask for?

The best food in Namche Bazaar

Trek Climb Ski Nepal have been running trips in the Everest region for many years now and we would never consider staying anywhere else in Namche. I wasn’t going to get started on the food but the chilli chicken is a must try along with the potato rosti. The minestrone is my pick of the soups and the pepper steak (and even yak) here is fantastic – and that from someone who avoids eating any red meat when in Nepal. The set breakfast menu number 1 is the perfect way to start the day (eggs, toast, bacon, juice and coffee). The hotel is always impeccably clean and no request is ever too much trouble for the friendly staff.  We absolutely love it here and you’ll see our guides and guests alike at the Namche Hotel every year.
