Mera Peak Map

September 5, 2014

This Mera Peak map shows the expedition route we take on all Trek Climb Ski Nepal Mera Peak expeditions. If you’re wondering how our Mera Peak route compares to others, the main difference is we trek to Namche Bazaar and spend two days (and nights) in this beautiful Sherpa village as part of our vital acclimatisation process. Our track record shows that this approach to our acclimatisation pays huge dividends once we start getting up above 5000m.

Heading to Namche Bazaar for 2 days and nights at the beginning of the expedition also has the following benefits:

  • two great nights of Sherpa food and hospitality at the Namche Hotel
  • great traditional views of Everest, Lhotse and Ama Dablam from the Everest View Hotel
  • the perfect acclimatisation start with 2 nights sleeping at 3440m with a walk up to 3800m
  • a visit to the Namche Bazaar monastery and a blessing ceremony by the Lama
  • the ability to then trek back via Lukla and straight up and over the Zatrwa La pass at 4600m

Our Mera Peak itinerary

Referring to the above Mera Peak map, our itinerary begins in Lukla and spends a night in Phakding. We then trek to Namche Bazaar and have 2 nights staying at the Namche Hotel. A long day follows all the way back to Lukla but it’s not too taxing a day being mostly downhill. A night in Lukla then we leave the relative luxury of lodge accommodation as we begin camping in Chutanga the next day. A long steep up the following day over the Zatrwa La pass and down to Tuli Kharka. It’s a long hard day but we manage the altitude gain well given our solid acclimatisation to date.

The following day we trek all the way down to the river and arrive in the lush surrounds of Kote. A further day and we reach Tangnag and spend 2 nights here. Then to Khare for a further 2 nights. People on our Mera Peak expeditions will notice that none of the other groups spend 2 nights at both Tangnag and Khare. We do this to bullet-proof our acclimatisation in order to give ourselves the best chance of summit success.

You’ll see on the Mera Peak map that we then head to the Mera La (Mera Peak Base Camp) where we spend one night. The next day we climb to Mera Peak High Camp at 5800m and make final preparations before leaving for the summit early the following morning. Our summit day begins at around 3 am and we hope to be standing on top of Mera Peak by around 9 am.  It’s a long descent then all the way back to Khare on the same day.
