Everest Base Camp today

everest base camp today

April 18, 2017

A timely update for everyone following our April Everest Base Camp trek. Our team haven’t missed a beat since hitting the trail in Lukla on April 10 and are all set to trek into Everest Base Camp today.

Our Follow Us Live technology has been updating our team’s progress daily and yesterday we were notified that they arrived at Gorak Shep. No to mention our trip leader – Gyan Tamang – has been doing a great job updating his Facebook page with posts and images from the trip.

Team due to reach Everest Base Camp today

Weather permitting, we expect out team to reach Everest Base Camp today at around midday. They’ll be up early for a big breakfast in Gorak Shep then plan to hit the trail at around 9am. Everest Base Camp is extremely busy at the moment given it’s the main climbing season for Mt Everest. There are hundreds of people camped at Base Camp right now all preparing for a shot at the summit later in May. It’s quite a spectacle during April and May each year as climbers from all over the world turn out to attempt the highest mountain in the world.

Then to Island Peak

For Jonathan and Delisa on our team, Everest Base Camp is their warm-up mission before heading on to Island Peak (above) in a couple of days. After leaving Base Camp, they’ll descend back to Dingboche where they’ll spend another night. Then they’ll head up the Chukhung valley to Chukhung at 4730m which is the last village settlement they’ll stay at before heading to Island Peak Base Camp. We’ll send another update as they prepare to climb Island Peak so stay tuned for that.

High on Island Peak

The photo above shows a team from one of our previous Island Peak expeditions making their way up Island Peak. Hopefully Jon and Delisa will experience similar weather for their summit attempt in a few days time.
