Highlights
Cho Oyu is the sixth highest mountain in the world and is widely regarded as a technically straightforward climb. Cho Oyu is renowned as the ideal lead-up expedition for those preparing to attempt Mt Everest. Climbing Cho Oyu is the perfect way to experience life above 8000m for the first time.
Our adventure begins in Kathmandu where you’ll enjoy a sightseeing tour of the Kathmandu Valley. You’ll spend town nights staying at The Radisson Hotel. We’ll cover all necessary preliminary logistics in Kathmandu in preparation for our expedition.
Our Cho Oyu expedition
From Kathmandu we’ll drive to the Nepal/Tibetan border at Kodari. We cross the friendship bridge then spend the night in Zhangmu. The next day we drive to Nyalam. We spend two nights at Nyalam as part of our important acclimatisation process and will undertake a number of walks in the surrounding hills as part of this program. The next day we’ll drive along the Tibetan Plateau to Tingri and take in views of Shishapangma, Cho Oyu and Mt Everest along the way. From Tingri we drive to Cho Oyu Base Camp where we spend a further 3 – 4 days as part of the essential acclimatisation process. A further 2 days is spent trekking to Advanced Base Camp (ABC) where we’ll establish our home and base for the coming month. The next month will be spent climbing the mountain.
Our Cho Oyu expedition itinerary includes plenty of rest days allowing for safe altitude acclimatisation. Nothing alters the fact that climbing an 8000m mountain is a dangerous undertaking with real risks. To join this trip, you must have sufficient experience and must have been above 6000m. You must be mentally strong, physically fit and believe in your ability to be successful. You must be capable of moving between camps unsupervised and possess sound mountaineering skills. Trek Climb Ski Nepal have prepared an extensive expedition dossier in relation to this expedition which will be sent to you upon booking. Watch Cho Oyu climbing videos on our YouTube channel.
