Everest Base Camp For Over 60s

The perfect “Bucket-List” Mt Everest adventure for people who:

  • Have limited time to be away  ⏰
  • Aren’t as fit as they’d like to be  🤸‍♀️
  • Aren’t as young as they used to be  👴

but still want to see Everest Base Camp and Mt Everest with their own eyes!

If you have just one week you can spare, we’ll immerse you in all the rich and diverse cultural heritage Nepal has to offer.

In Kathmandu, you’ll visit shrines, palaces and iconic sites like Boudhanath Stupa, World Heritage listed Pashupatinath Temple and Durbar Square. Kathmandu is like a place that time forgot, and you’ll marvel at this chaotic and loud but exotic, beautiful and captivating city.

The Kathmandu Valley and the Himalayas

After two nights exploring the magic of Kathmandu, you’ll fly by private helicopter to Lukla. Lukla is the gateway to the Everest region and it’s where most begin the famous trek to Everest Base Camp.

Despite its remote location, Lukla is a busy mountain village with heaps of amenities for tourists including shops, markets, lodges, restaurants and cafes. You’ll have plenty of time to explore Lukla and to start getting a feel for Himalayan mountain life. Your hosts tonight are Kami Sherpa and his family at the renowned Namaste Lodge. The traditional Nepalese food will blow you away and yes, your accommodation even has hot showers 😉.

namche bazaar

Namche Bazaar by night

The next morning you’ll jump back on board your private helicopter and fly up valley to the famous Sherpa village of Namche Bazaar. En route, see your first spectacular views of Mt Everest. Namche Bazaar is a vibrant and bustling Sherpa village situated at 3,440 metres. Trekkers and climbers usually spend two nights in Namche to acclimatise before heading to higher altitudes.

You’ll have two days and nights here which will allow you to explore plenty of what this exciting village has to offer. Some of the highlights include:

  • Walking up to the Hotel Everest View to watch the sunrise over Mt Everest
  • Visit the Namche Monastery and receive a blessing from the Buddhist Lama
  • Explore the Sherpa Culture Museum and Everest Documentation Centre
  • Take a stunning (and cruisy) 4km walk from Namche to Thamo
  • Sample the best chilli-chicken dish in the entire world at Hotel Namche
  • Visit the famous Hermann Helmers Bakery
  • Explore the fantastic clothing and equipment shops, cafes and markets

Mt Everest and Lhotse as seen from Namche Bazaar

After two nights in Namche we’re confident you won’t want to leave but this next day is special. An early start from the Namche helipad and you’re flying up valley with the skyline dominated by Himalayan giants Everest, Lhotse, Makalu and Ama Dablam. Wow-factor plus in every direction.

You’ll touch down for a photo opportunity on Kala Patthar, perched high above Everest Base Camp. Your flight will then continue up and over Everest Base Camp with truly stunning views of Mt Everest, the infamous Khumbu Icefall and up into the Western CWM. This is the rooftop of the world and the views from your helicopter are now lifetime memories.

Not to be outdone, the flight back down valley and return to Kathmandu is also spectacular with the main Himalayan range visible throughout. It’s worth taking a map and seeing how many Himalayan giants you can identify during the flight.

Back in Kathmandu our ground crew will convey you back to The Radisson Hotel and the afternoon and evening is yours. The rooftop pool or terrace garden bar are both great places to chill out and enjoy a cold drink. The next day is also a free day for you to shop or cram in some more sightseeing. A visit to the ancient city of Bhaktapur and/or the Swayambhunath Monkey Temple are a great way to spend the day.

Helicopter landed at Kala Patthar, high above Everest Base Camp

Your flight will make a stop at Kala Patthar, a vantage point that offers an extraordinary close-up view of Everest. This is a photo opportunity that normally takes a 2-week trek to enjoy! The view of Mt Everest from Kala Patthar is the highlight of any Everest Base Camp trek or trip to this region. After this brief stop, your flight will continue up and over Everest Base Camp and alongside the deadly Khumbu Icefall. The Khumbu Icefall is a treacherous and highly dangerous section of the climbing route on Mt Everest that lies between Base Camp and Camp I. The Icefall is the most hazardous and unpredictable section of the Everest climb. It poses numerous dangers including frequent avalanches and serac collapses, making it a deadly area to navigate for climbers.
