Annapurna Base Camp Trek
Overview
Annapurna Base Camp Trek
The Annapurna Base Camp Trek is one of Nepalโs most iconic adventures – a classic Himalayan journey that combines diverse landscapes, vibrant culture, and up-close encounters with some of the worldโs highest peaks. Carefully designed by Trek Climb Ski Nepal, this well-paced trek takes you through terraced fields, traditional Gurung villages, and along ancient mountain trails that have connected communities for centuries.
Starting from Ulleri near Pokhara, the route ascends through charming hill settlements to Ghorepani and the famous Poon Hill viewpoint, where trekkers are rewarded with a breathtaking sunrise over Dhaulagiri, Annapurna, and Machapuchare. From here, the trail winds through Chhomrong and gradually enters the magnificent Annapurna Sanctuary – a natural amphitheatre surrounded by soaring Himalayan giants.
The Annapurna Base Camp Trek allows for gradual acclimatisation as you ascend to Annapurna Base Camp (4130m), where the scale and serenity of the mountains are simply awe-inspiring. The return journey follows the same valley, passing through peaceful forests, warm local teahouses, and lively mountain villages where traditional hospitality runs deep.

Day 3
Drive Kathmandu to Pokhara
After breakfast, embark on a scenic drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara – a journey of around 6โ7 hours that winds through terraced hillsides, charming villages, and along the Trishuli River.
Arrive in Pokhara, Nepalโs picturesque lakeside city, where the tranquil waters of Phewa Lake reflect the snow-capped peaks of Machapuchare (Fishtail) and the Annapurna range. Spend the evening relaxing by Lake Phewa or exploring the vibrant local markets. Overnight in Pokhara.
Day 4
Drive Pokhara to Ulleri & Trek to Ghorepani
After breakfast, travel by private vehicle from Pokhara to Ulleri, where your trekking adventure truly begins. The drive winds through scenic farmland and hillside villages before you lace up your boots and set off on foot. From Ulleri, the trail climbs steadily through forests of oak and rhododendron, alive with birds and filtered sunlight. Stone stairways and suspension bridges mark your journey upward as you pass small mountain hamlets and terraced fields carved into the hillsides.
The air grows cooler as you ascend, and the snow-capped peaks of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges begin to appear through the trees. The final stretch to Ghorepani rewards your efforts with wide open views and a sense of true arrival in the high Himalayas. This colourful Magar village, framed by towering ridgelines and prayer flags fluttering in the breeze, is the perfect place to rest and soak in your first real taste of mountain life. Day 5
Poon Hill Sunrise, then trek to Tadapani
Rise early for the short but rewarding climb to Poon Hill (3210m), one of Nepalโs most celebrated viewpoints. As dawn breaks, the first rays of sunlight spill across the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges, turning the snow-capped peaks brilliant shades of gold and rose. The stillness of the morning and the vast Himalayan panorama make this one of the most memorable moments of your journey.
After breakfast back in Ghorepani, continue trekking towards Tadapani, following a scenic trail along Deurali Ridge. The path winds through cool forest and open ridgelines, offering constant views of Machapuchare and Annapurna South. By afternoon youโll arrive in Tadapani, a peaceful mountain village surrounded by thick forest and distant views of the peaks – a beautiful place to unwind after an inspiring day on the trail. This part of the Annapurna Base Camp Trek feels serene and remote – a transition zone where the subtropical forests slowly give way to the alpine wilderness ahead.
Youโll pass a handful of small teahouses and rest stops tucked among the trees, perfect for a short break and a warm cup of tea. As you approach Dovan, the trail narrows and the surrounding cliffs rise dramatically on both sides, creating a peaceful, sheltered atmosphere. The village of Dovan itself is a quiet haven nestled in dense forest – a beautiful place to rest before the next dayโs push higher into the mountains. Overnight at Dovan.

The air grows cooler and crisper as you climb higher, and the sound of the river below fades into the distance. Each turn on the trail brings you closer to the high alpine world that defines the upper reaches of the Annapurna Base Camp Trek.
As you emerge above the tree line, the dramatic peak of Machapuchare dominates the skyline – its sharp, symmetrical summit revered by locals as sacred and unclimbed. The surrounding ridges glow in the afternoon light, and the scale of the mountains begins to feel truly immense. Settle in and take time to absorb the stillness of this incredible place. Overnight at Machapuchare Base Camp.
