Overview

Annapurna Circuit

The Annapurna Circuit is one of the worldโ€™s most iconic trekking routes in Nepal, and for good reason. It delivers a complete journey through an extraordinary range of Himalayan landscapes, all within a single trek. From lush valleys and traditional villages to high altitude deserts and the crossing of Thorong La Pass, this is not just a walk in the mountains, it is a full immersion into a changing world.

The journey begins in Kathmandu before moving by road toward the trailhead at Jagat. From here, the Annapurna Circuit gradually unfolds through river valleys, terraced farmland, and remote mountain settlements. As the days pass, the shift in landscape and culture becomes impossible to miss.

As altitude increases, the scenery transforms. Green forests and flowing waterfalls give way to dry, alpine terrain. The trail becomes more exposed, more rugged, and more demanding. This steady build leads to one of the defining moments of the trek, the crossing of Thorong La Pass at 5416 metres, where the scale and rawness of the Himalayas truly hits home.

The descent tells a completely different story. As you move toward Muktinath and down to Jomsom, the landscape shifts again. The lush valleys are left behind and replaced by wide, wind swept terrain and deep, dry valleys. This contrast is one of the defining features of the Annapurna Circuit and a big part of what makes the experience so memorable.

Why Choose the Annapurna Circuit

The Annapurna Circuit stands apart because of its sheer diversity. Very few treks in the world offer this level of contrast in such a short period of time. One day you are walking through forests and villages, the next you are moving across high altitude terrain that feels closer to Tibet than Nepal.

It is not just about the scenery. The cultural experience is just as powerful. The villages along the Annapurna Circuit provide a genuine insight into life in the Himalayas. There is a quiet authenticity to these places, shaped by tradition, environment, and the rhythm of mountain life.

This trek suits those looking for more than just a physical challenge. It offers a sense of progression that builds each day, both mentally and physically. You feel the journey as it unfolds, step by step, environment by environment.

For those wanting a trek that combines variety, challenge, and real connection to place, the Annapurna Circuit continues to stand as one of the most rewarding experiences in Nepal.

Day 1

Arrive into Kathmandu International Airport where youโ€™ll be met by your Trek Climb Ski Nepal team and transferred through the vibrant streets to your hotel. Once settled, youโ€™ll meet your expedition leader, get fitted out with your down jacket, sleeping bag, and kit bag, and run through a detailed briefing on the journey ahead. Kathmandu has a unique feel about it, colourful, chaotic, and full of energy, and you can sense straight away that something special is about to begin.

That evening, we come together for a welcome dinner with the team and your fellow trekkers. Itโ€™s an easy, social introduction to the group, with plenty of stories, laughs, and a few nerves mixed in. Over great food and genuine local hospitality, the reality of the adventure starts to sink in as you look ahead to the experience waiting for you in the mountains.

Day 2

After a delicious buffet breakfast at the hotel, we set off on a guided sightseeing tour of Kathmanduโ€™s cultural highlights. We begin at Pashupatinath Temple, Nepalโ€™s most sacred Hindu site, where sadhus, pilgrims and rituals line the banks of the Bagmati River.

Next is the serene Boudhanath Stupa, one of the worldโ€™s largest Buddhist stupas. Surrounded by prayer flags and spinning wheels, itโ€™s a peaceful contrast to the bustle of the city. We finish at Durbar Square, the historic heart of Kathmandu, home to centuries-old temples, courtyards and royal palaces.

After the tour, the afternoon is at leisure, with our team available to assist anyone needing last-minute gear or supplies. The evening is free to relax, explore or enjoy one of the cityโ€™s many great restaurants.

The trek from Dharapani to Chame marks a shift deeper into the Annapurna region, with the trail winding through pine forests, traditional villages, and alongside the Marsyangdi River. As you gain altitude, the air sharpens and the views begin to open, with Lamjung Himal and Annapurna II making their presence felt.

Arriving in Chame, the district headquarters of Manang, you are rewarded with a real sense that the mountains are starting to close in around you.

DayS 7

Gradually, the landscape transforms into open alpine terrain as you gain altitude. Tibetan-style villages and monasteries begin to appear along the trail, reflecting a cultural shift. Meanwhile, the air becomes thinner and cooler with each step.

After ascending slowly, we arrive in Manang at 3530m. Manang is a thriving village and a great place to rest up, explore and even do some shopping.

Day 8

Your acclimatisation day in Manang is a vital pause, giving your body time to adjust to the altitude while still keeping it moving. A short hike to higher ground, often towards Gangapurna Lake or above the village, helps your body adapt while opening up incredible views of the surrounding peaks.

Back in Manang, there is time to rest, refuel, and take in the unique atmosphere of this high Himalayan settlement.

Today we fly from Jomsom to Pokhara, leaving the raw, high mountain environment behind for something a lot more relaxed. It is a short but memorable flight, with one last look at the Himalaya before dropping into the warmth and colour of the lakeside.

Tonight we settle in by Phewa Tal, where the pace slows right down and we come together for a well earned celebration. Good food, a few drinks, and a chance to reflect on what has been a special journey.
