Why Us

No Short cuts

No Short Cuts is more than a motto – it’s a commitment that runs through everything we do. It means we’ll never be the cheapest option on the market, and we’re absolutely fine with that. Because delivering outstanding service, expert guidance, robust safety systems, high-quality meals, contingency planning and personalised support simply isn’t something you can do on a shoestring.

There are many factors that influence the cost of a Nepal adventure. At Trek Climb Ski Nepal, we never cut corners – especially when it comes to your safety or the success of your trip.

Safety

Safety is at the core of every trip we run, for our guests and our team alike. We operate under a strict set of safety and emergency protocols informed by best-practice mountaineering procedures and police search and rescue standards.

Our 100% safety record speaks for itself. When you’re in the mountains with us, you’re in experienced, capable hands that know how to manage risk and respond if things go wrong.

Expertise – Our Team

We’re incredibly proud of the people we call our team. Our Sherpa guides and climbing leaders are the best in the business – many with multiple Everest summits and years of experience leading expeditions across the Himalayas.

They’re more than just guides – they’re trusted professionals with a personal investment in every trip we run. Most of our crew have worked with us for years, and the bonds we share go far beyond business. We look after each other like family, and that’s exactly how they’ll look after you.

Nepal Community Fund

From the beginning, we made it a priority to treat our Nepali staff with the respect and care they deserve. That meant fair pay, proper insurance, warm clothing, quality gear, and good food on every expedition. As word spread, we began attracting some of the best guides and porters in the region.

Over time, our support grew. Through the Help Nepal Network (Australia), we raised funds for grassroots initiatives, ran a clothing drive for the Icefall Doctors, and supported families across the Everest region.

Today, those early efforts have evolved into the Nepal Community Fund – a way for us to continue supporting the health, education and wellbeing of our extended Trek Climb Ski Nepal family. It’s something we’re deeply proud of.

safety

In 20 years of operation, we are incredibly proud of our 100% safety record. The priority of every expedition we run is the safety of our guests and staff alike. We ensure your safety by following emergency and safety protocols that reflect know-how from best practice mountaineering and police search and rescue operating procedures.

How we work to keep you safe

  • We only trek and climb (and ski) routes that our team has travelled many times before so you can be sure we know what lies ahead every step of the way
  • We only employ very experienced trip leaders and guides to take care of you in the mountains. Learn more about our people and their vast experience in the “Our Team” summary below
  • Safety and emergency operating protocols designed by Mt Everest summiteers and veteran Himalayan guides so you can be absolutely confident that we mean it when we say that your safety is our number one priority
  • Regular communications with our Melbourne office during all trips so our team in Australia can be in touch with you when you need it
  • Nutritious and balanced meals so you know you’ll be eating the best food available in the mountains using fresh ingredients prepared according to our strict hygiene protocols

our team

Tika Tamang
Leadership, resilience and an easy smile are why our clients deeply admire Tika. Tika is a highly respected leader and veteran high altitude climber. He has led trekkers and climbers through some of the toughest mountain terrain in Nepal, Tibet and India for more than 30 years. He has guided numerous clients to summit several 8000m+ Himalayan peaks including Mt Everest, Cho Oyu and Makalu. He speaks English, German and Tibetan very well. Tika is a co-founder of Trek Climb Ski Nepal and manages all our Nepal based operations. Tika is married with two children.

Nick Farr
Integrity and leadership are why thousands of clients have returned to entrust themselves to Nick’s lead in high altitude environments around the world for the past two decades. Nick is co-founder and Director of Trek Climb Ski Nepal. Nick has consistently demonstrated over more than two decades the ability to succeed in some of the world’s most hostile environments and he has climbed several of the world’s highest mountains, including Mt Everest in 2005. Nick has safely led thousands of people on trekking, mountaineering and skiing expeditions across North America, Nepal, India and Australia.

Sanduk Tamang
Sanduk’s mountaineering experience includes 16 successful Mt Everest summits along with countless ascents of numerous 6000m and 7000m Himalayan peaks. His mountain credentials aside, Sanduk is one of our funniest team members who loves a practical joke. He consistently wins our chilli-eating competitions and should be watched closely when playing Uno. Sanduk is a quality person and we are fortunate to have him leading and guiding a range of our trekking and climbing expeditions.

Lakpa Sherpa
Lakpa is hands down the strongest high altitude guide we know. His strength, focus and ability when the air gets thin is matched only by his infectious enthusiasm and sense of humour. Lakpa has successfully guided clients to the summit of Mt Everest on 17 occasions and he has lost count of the number of times he has climbed Ama Dablam, Mera Peak and Island Peak. Lakpa was born and raised in Khumjung in the heart of the Solukhumbu. He has been a Himalayan trekking and climbing guide all his life and is one of our most qualified and experienced leaders.

Gyan Bahadur Tamang
Diligence, patience and climbing talent are why our clients love Gyan. Gyan is a respected Himalayan lead guide and talented high altitude climber. He has more than 20 years’ experience leading trekkers and climbers through the Nepal Himalaya. Like many in our team, Gyan has also guided clients to the summit of Mt Everest. And he has more summits than he can count of 6000m+ mountains including Mera Peak, Island Peak, Pachermo and Lobuche East. Gyan speaks fluent English and has worked with Trek Climb Ski Nepal since 2006. Gyan is brother to Tika, and is married with two young daughters.

Shrejana Tamang
Shrejana Tamang is our Office and Administration Manager but this title doesn’t do justice to the many important roles she fulfils. Shrejana does a fantastic job coordinating guest arrival and departures, hosting sightseeing tours and managing our many transport logistics. She oversees our expedition staffing, equipment, hotel and lodging reservations and all our Nepal based IT and GPS systems. Shrejana also organises our regular social events including guest welcome dinners and farewell celebrations. Shrejana is sister to Tika and Gyan.

Santa Magar
An army marches on its stomach, the famous general Napoleon Bonaparte wisely observed. Likewise, probably the most important staff member on any high altitude expedition is the head cook. Care and culinary genius at high altitude are why all our climbing clients hold Santa in high esteem. Santa has more than 20 years’ experience producing protein and carbohydrate rich and miraculously tasty meals. He has held he role of head cook on more than 100 expeditions above 6000m. Santa speaks some English, but communicates better though his dishes! He has worked with Trek Climb Ski Nepal for 20 years. Santa is married with three daughters.

Mina Tamang
When it comes to Nepalese hospitality, Mina Tamang (Tika’s wife) has no equal. Whenever we stay at Chateau Tamang – Tika and Mina’s home on the outskirts of Kathmandu – it’s Mina that warmly greets us and gets us settled. The traditional Nepalese food soon follows and you’re never allowed to stop after just one serve. All our guests have the option to stay with Mina and Tika at their home at the start or conclusion of their trip with us. Mina’s hospitality is one of the most authentic experiences you’ll encounter anywhere in Nepal.
