The Everest Circuit highlights reel is a package that keeps on giving. On Day 10 of the Everest Circuit Trek, our trekkers are offered the opportunity to rise early and summit Gokyo Ri to watch the sunrise and take in the incredible views of the Himalayan giants Lhotse, Makalu, Cholatse and Cho Oyu and one of the best views of Everest in the Khumbu. Also visible from the summit of Gokyo Ri is the Ngozumpa glacier, the largest glacier in the Nepal Himalaya.

During the acclimatisation day at Gokyo there is the opportunity to climb the ridge of the lateral moraine to take in the stunning views of the Ngozumpa glacier – and you’ll hear it moving with the constant cracking and movement of the glacier. Other Everest Circuit highlights include passing by the sacred Gokyo Lakes on the way into Gokyo village. These lakes are part of the highest freshwater lake system in the world and they provide a picturesque backdrop to the village.

The Khumbu Icefall

The Khumbu Icefall is a major highlight of the Everest Circuit Trek (watch our video below). The Icefall is the most dangerous section of the climbing route on Everest (from the Nepal side). It’s an unpredictable flowing river of ice made up of thousands of towering seracs that regularly collapse as the mass of ice moves slowly downhill. The Khumbu Icefall has claimed the lives of many mountaineers attempting to climb Mt Everest.

Learn more about our Everest Circuit highlights. Some of these include crossing the Cho La pass, trekking into Everest Base Camp and also scaling Kala Pattar at 5550m. Not to mention two nights at The Namche Hotel in Namche Bazaar. The Namche Hotel is home to the finest chilli chicken in all of Nepal and probably the best hot showers available anywhere in the Khumbu. After more than 2 weeks of solid trekking, the hot showers are a trip highlight in their own right.
